Dear Brethren,

This report will basically cover the second half of May.  I was late getting my last report out, as I explained in my last report. A lot has happened in the last half of May. That includes me turning 62 years old.

First, let me give you an update on Dad. He was doing well, and then he suffered another mini-stroke. He was in intensive care for three nights, and then in a regular room for another three days. He was very weak on his right side. He is back in Serene Senior Care. He is getting therapy, regaining his strength, and doing much better.  His mind is as sharp as ever!! The doctors and nurses here are surprised at how much strength he has regained and how quickly it has been regained. He has trouble writing, so he practices writing every day. I have been staying with him at night and then going to work during the day. When I go into the mountains, one of my sons stays with him. I am attaching a picture of Dad, my two sons, and me.

On the 18th, we went to the first day of school at the kindergarten that we renovated. It was a lot of fun.  Everything was new, and the young people were excited and loved playing on the new playground. The principal said that this is the first time they have not had any crying kindergarteners on the first day of school!!

We went to the first day of school at the kindergarten that we renovated.

For the last two weeks, and for the next two weeks, we have been and will be getting university students ready to go into their dorms. The universities all open in the next couple of weeks. We buy the supplies that they did not bring with them. We buy fans, sheets, blankets, pillows, cleaning supplies, things to cook with, plates, forks, rice cookers, instant noodles, and other things. Then comes the moving-in process.  Then there are all the parent/teacher meetings. We are basically the parents for all of these young people. So far, we have been to these meetings at three high schools and five universities… and we are not done yet. We have ten students in university in Chiang Mai this year. Those ten students are in three different universities in three different parts of Chiang Mai. Several of these students are not Christians… so I have started several personal Bible studies. We pray that these young people will soon be brethren. We didn’t know how we were going to get all of these young people to worship every week. We have been hiring one car that goes and picks up one of the young ladies who is now a nurse’s assistant at a nursing home. That nursing home is in the opposite direction from the universities. We were going to have at least two other cars to get all the young people to and from worship. With that many vehicles, the fuel cost was going to be more than we could afford. So, I talked to the person I buy vehicles from.  She said that they are selling vans in Thailand again. If you remember, several years ago we had a van. We could not get it to pass the roadworthiness inspection and ended up selling it. At that time, they had stopped selling vans here in Thailand. We bought a vehicle that could hold seven people… if two were very small. To make a long story short, she was able to work us a deal to trade that vehicle and get a fifteen-passenger van. Now we will be able to get everyone to and from worship and only have to buy fuel for one vehicle.  I will start early every Sunday morning to pick up the young people. It will be about an hour and a half to get them all to worship. Then I will take them home and start the four and a half hour trip to Mae Hong Son to worship with the church there.

Our building project is coming along very well. We hope that the VIP rooms will be done in the first part of July so that we can use them for our ten-day school about the divisions of the Old Testament. The big building should be ready about the middle of July. We had talked about five pre-fab buildings. We ran into problems with zoning laws in our area.  The big building will hold more, be cooler, and last longer for roughly the same amount as the five buildings. The VIP rooms will be different in that they will have a bathroom in each room and air conditioning.

In addition to all of this, I continue to teach the young men we are training to be preachers. Presently, I am also translating the PowerPoint lessons for our ten-day Bible school in July. May God continue to bless us all as we work together for Him.

God bless,
Michael
