Dear Brethren,

It was wonderful to see many of you during August and September in America. It is always a blessing to be able to touch base with everyone. Dad and I got back to Thailand on October 1st. We hit the ground running and have not stopped.  October was a very busy month, but a wonderful month as well.

The week that we arrived, four of our young people graduated from nursing assistant school. These young ladies are now beginning their working lives. The help that you all give makes it possible for young people to have a better life now and a better life in eternity. Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and help.

Four of our young people graduated from nursing assistant school.

We also visited a school to determine what we could do to help them. We first visited the Sanpon School in July because one of our students attends there. On this trip we gave snacks to all the students and talked with the principal. The Sanpon School is like many schools in Thailand.  They get very little help from the government. Many things become worn down and broken over time… but there is no money to replace or update. As we looked around the school, we saw many things that need to be improved. They needed clean water to drink, new tables and chairs in the area where they eat lunch, and they required books and shelves in the library. The shelves were falling apart, and so were the few books that they had. We purchased new tables and chairs for their cafeteria, and water fountains that have a built-in water purification system. For the library, we bought four tables and chairs, a sitting area to relax and read, new shelves, and 500 new books. We also bought educational posters to decorate the walls. We purchased three new ceiling fans for the library… the fans that were there were all broken. As we were putting the new books on the new shelves, we realized that many of the windows and window frames in the library were broken or rotted. So, we purchased new windows, which will all be installed by November 12th.  Today, November 3rd, is their first day back at school for the new term.  We will go and visit the young people.

On Sunday, October 5th, Dad taught Bible class and preached in Chiang Mai. Then we got in the truck and drove to Mae Hong Son.  Dad preached once again.  I translated all the lessons. It was really nice to see the young ladies there since I had not seen them since July.

Dad preached at Mae Hong Son.

On Saturday, the 11th, Perry arrived, and on Sunday night, Greg arrived. We were very happy that Greg’s wife, Danielle, and his daughter, Hannah, were able to come with him this time. We started our school on the Prison Epistles on Monday. Greg taught Ephesians, Dad taught Philippians, Perry taught Colossians, and I taught Philemon. Danielle and Hannah brought activities and review games. We all had a great time with them. We had 53 people at this school. In the afternoon, after the daily lessons, I taught some special classes for those who were not yet Christians and those who were new Christians. The great news is that one of our young ladies, Damoo, was baptized into Christ. She is a very special young lady, and I have been waiting for her to become a Christian. She is going to be a great value to the Lord’s kingdom. You will see in the picture where she is being baptized that she has a white string tied around each of her wrists. That is from Buddhism. That string had been blessed by Buddhist monks. The people are supposed to wear them till they fall off. Without telling her, once she was baptized, she cut them off.

Damoo was baptized into Christ.

We started our school on the Prison Epistles.

The next week, Joey and Jerry came. We picked them up from the airport and went to Mae Hong Son. That night, Jerry spoke and I translated. There were 15 people present. We enjoyed a nice meal together.  The next morning, we got up early and drove 4 hours to Maekaduan. We had lunch and then four lessons, and then an evening meal together. I taught the first lesson, Passakorn taught the second lesson, Joey taught the third lesson, and Jerry taught the last lesson. I translated for Joey and Jerry. We had 82 people present on this day. The exciting part is that we had a village come that we had never been to before. It was the village of Khabuang.  Two of the government officials from that village brought 16 people.  They were very impressed.  In fact, we have a worship service set up at the house of one of the officials. That village has 300 roofs… that is how they count population in Thailand. The point is, we have a great opportunity opened up for us in that village. We spent the night in Maesariang, and then the next morning, we took Joey and Jerry back to the airport.

The last week of the month was the time that we spent buying, taking, and setting up the things in the Sanpon School. The first day, when we were setting up the tables for their cafeteria, we realized that the tables we bought were shorter than the tables they had. We had to go back and buy 5 more tables. We do not know how much good will come back from this work. We do know that there is much goodwill from that village already. We pray that it will bring forth fruit for the Lord.

On Saturday, dad and I went back to Mae Hong Son. On Sunday morning, we worshiped together. Dad taught, and I translated. Afterward, we went and had a meal together. In the last 5 days… we have spent 20 hours in the truck.

May God continue to bless us as we continue to work for Him,
Michael

Dear Brethren,

I left one part of my report out. You will see two pictures concerning the death of the Queen Mother. She was the wife of Rama 9 and is the mother of Rama 10. As a result, everyone in Thailand must wear black for the next 90 days.  Some jobs/offices require wearing black for the next year. Since not everyone can go to the funeral, places are set up around the country where you can go and sign a book (like the book you sign at the funeral home). It is a way of showing grief and respect. The queen and king are seen as the father and mother of the country.

God bless,
Michael
