Dear Brethren,
I hope that this report finds everyone happy and healthy. We have been having a very cool spell in Thailand. We have been down in the low 50s F. Here, that is very cold. The other day, I wore a shirt, a sweatshirt, and a jacket… and I was still cold!! I know this is just cool for most of you, but here it is very cold.
Dad left in the middle of this month. It was truly wonderful to spend nearly a quarter of a year together. He traveled with me in America in August and September. Then he came back to Thailand with me for October and half of November. What a blessing to spend that time together every day. The first half of November, Dad traveled with me each week to teach. Dad did a lot of the teaching, and I translated for him. I hope that if I live to 92 years of age, my mind will be as clear as his and that I will be able to continue teaching and preaching.
Last month, the people from Ban Khabuang came and heard us teach four lessons. They invited us to come to their village. We went, and I taught those who came. We also passed out Bibles to all who came. We met the head of their village and the head of the parents in that village. It was a wonderful morning. As soon as we were done, Dad and I drove to Mae Hong Son. We spent the night there and on Sunday morning, Dad taught, and I translated for him. Then we got in the car and drove to Maekhaduang, and we had another service. I did the teaching at that service.
I took Dad to the airport on the morning that he flew out. I was coughing quite a bit as we stood in line for him to check in. After Dad went in through to the departure gate, I had to go buy some things for the work that we are planning to do in the first part of December. I needed to buy some paint brushes, paint trays, and paint. As I was waiting for them to mix the paint, I started feeling really bad. I went home and went to bed. That night I had a 101-degree temperature. The next morning, I had to take two of our young ladies to the hospital for interviews. While they were having their interviews, I went to see the doctor. I had Flu Type-A and was admitted to the hospital. For four days, I did nothing but sleep. I am up and doing better… back to work!!
Sometimes we have some disappointing news. One of our young ladies did not pass her physical. When she was a young girl, she had a brain tumor removed. She received a blood transfusion that gave her hepatitis B. She was devastated to find out. She will have to rethink what she does for the future. The ups and downs of the lives of the young people we help are very sad at times. We are trying to find out information to help her make good choices so that she can have a good occupation and be able to take care of herself and help her family.
You may have seen in the news the flooding in South Thailand. Here they are reporting that over 80 people have died. People have been stuck on their roofs for days at a time. We bought a lot of supplies to send and help the people there. We bought food, clothing, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and lots of diapers.
We received some good news in our foundation. The government has listed us as a level 1 public help organization. This is the highest level for foundations in Thailand. We are very happy to achieve this recognition from the government. Together, we are doing great things and changing people’s lives both physically and spiritually.
God bless,
Michael
