Dear Brethren,
God continues to bless our work and give us new and exciting opportunities. Today 16 extra young people are staying on the property here. 14 of those young people, along with 9 of the young people who live in the dormitory here, are going to the Thailand Education Expo, which Chiang Mai University holds each year. This Expo will help them learn about the different faculties of the universities in Thailand. It will also help them learn about the requirements needed to enter each university. The other two students who are here this weekend are taking the government test to become teachers. The challenge is that we do not have enough space for that many extra people to sleep. To accommodate these young people, we moved all the seats apart in the auditorium and they are sleeping on the floor.
As you know from my last report, we will begin a Bible school with the Barrier family. We are excited about the short-term and long-term blessings this will bring to our work in Thailand. One thing that will help that work grow will be more dormitory space. We need long-term and short-term dormitory space.
Just before the group came last month, the lady who owns the land next to the property here, called me to the fence and asked if I wanted to buy half her land (2 Rai). She has been offered 3,000,000 Baht for the property. That amount is about $86,600 USD. She wants to sell it to us for several reasons:
- She has seen the work we are doing and she is impressed with it.
- She wants to keep the front half of the property for her children and does not want to sell the rest to just anyone. With people she doesn’t know she is afraid she might have problems in the future.
- The part she wants to sell is the back half. If she sells to someone else, she will need to give them right-of-way through the front part of the property. If she sells to us, that is not necessary because we can access that property from the property we are on now.
The land is worth 3,000,000 Baht ($86,600). However, since she wants to sell the land to us, she is selling it to us for 2,200,000 Baht or $63,500. Those numbers are using today’s exchange rate.
Our current dormitory.
The land we would like to purchase to expand our efforts.
Perry Bretherick, who is a great encourager and helper of the work here, was here right after she asked me about buying her land. We talked about the possibilities that would be available with that land. We are both very excited about what can be done. We can expand our current auditorium. Then build dormitories on the new property. Some of the dormitory space would be for additional students, some of the dormitory space would be for preaching students (who would live here full-time and get teaching and practical training), and some of the dormitory space would be for when we have special schools and camps. With this land, it would be possible for us to hold our annual youth camp here in Chiang Mai. It would reduce the cost of the camp and make it easier for all those who come from overseas. Perry is an elder at the Salem Church of Christ in Florence, Alabama. He went back and talked with the other elders and they want to help us purchase this land and build into the future.
Brethren, we need your help. Working together, we can build a unique work to the glory of God. Together we can build a place where we can teach more people. Like everything we do, our focus is bringing people to the Lord and giving Him the glory. If you can help, please send the contributions to:

Whatever you can give will be a great blessing. If we get more money than is needed for the land, we will use it to start building the new dormitory. The land purchase is a little time-sensitive. They would like us to pay for the land by November 1st. Thank you for all you do to help spread the gospel here in Thailand. I know this is a lot of money, but I also know how much can be done for the Lord by buying this land. Our goals are: to teach the lost, equip the saints, and help the needy. Buying this land is the next step in expanding our work.
May God continue to bless us as we work together for Him,
Michael
